| Shillingbury Tales
A story of simple honest country folk residing in the quaint little village of Shillingbury, which gets invaded by a couple of young upstarts, Peter and Sally, with their modern ways and unconventional attitudes...
| |
| A long forgotten TV series made in 1980 by ITC on location in Tring, Hertfordshire. | |
| |
| "Hahaha, someone's bought a Talbot Matra Rancho". | |
| |
| Sally and Peter can hardly believe their luck, moving into a village packed so full of kit. | |
| |
| Even the village handyman sports a Simca 1100 light commercial, much to the enjoyment of Sally (Diane Keen), despite the vehicle being badged a Dodge. | |
| |
| |
| The village tinker (Bernard Cribbins) is taken by an unattended Bentley. He is subsequently arrested and given a severe Shillingbury constabulary beating until confessing to various unsolved local incidents. | |
| Meanwhile Sally just can’t divert Peter’s attention away from a Renault 17. You can’t blame him. | |
| |
| |
| |
| “Look you, the Matra Rancho was nothing other than a Simca 1100 daubed in black plastic, fake bull-bars and spotlights to appear off-road.” | |
| |
| "Button it lady. The Talbot Matra Rancho is a legitimate off road vehicle suitable for transporting a combination of passengers, light to moderate farm produce and domestic animals." | |
| |
| In and around Shillingbury, the choice spotting experience would be to tour the area by velocipede, as demonstrated here. | |
| It’s that blue Renault 17 again. And there goes a Hillman Hunter. Probably badged as a Chrysler knowing this area. | |
| |
| |
| |
| "Stop! Take your poorly manufactured Longbridge contraption and begone from our village. We have standards here." | |
| |
| |
| White vending machines dispensing Cadbury's confectionary such as Fruit'n'Nut chocolate bars, as heralded by Frank Muir of the time. | |
| |
| The day draws to a close in Shillingbury, and everyone is all spotted out.
Time to recap the days' car sightings throughout the evening at the village pub over several ales.
